You might want to try the steam client - I think its unlikely to be hardware related as this is the only download I have issues with. I was able to fix my game by manually patching the steam client (after first unpacking the patch file with 7Zip)...

I was able to get back on friday - what worked for me was to download the manual patch (I used Firefox, rather than Internet Explorer) and then unzipped the downloaded file with 7zip and ran the .exe from the unpack file. Hope this helps someone ...

Same problem I was having - didn't have any of these problems before the Apocrypha update, but 1.2 is where things started to go really screwy. Now I can't get a working client at all - can't even manually patch the Steam version anymore.

Only way I could get a working client was to use STEAM. That has its own issues with updates - but I've had less trouble with that than with the standalone EVE client (after 1.2 patch).
